History:

The first Lions Club was founded in 1917 in Chicago. The Madrid Lions Club was founded in 1929, since it's beginnings the Madrid Lions have supported and sponsored groups and organizations like the Madrid Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts troops, Tiger Tots Preschool, Madrid Performing Arts Council, College Scholarships for Madrid high school seniors, Boone County 4-H Clubs and Boone County Prevention & Services. Other groups and organizations like Pony Express, Lions Summer Camp, Camp Hertko Hollow, Iowa Lions Foundation, Iowa Lions "Coming to Your Senses", Lions Club International & Leader Dogs for the Blind.
Lions Club International is the largest service organization in the world with over 1.3 million members in 200 countries. In 1925, Helen Keller addressed the Lions international convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, USA. She challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness". From that time, Lions clubs have been actively involved in service to the blind and visually impaired.

Last year the Madrid Lions gave back to the Madrid community, local & state organizations and individuals over $7115.00
